What is A Course In Miracles?

In 1965, Columbia University psychology professor, Helen Schucman experienced a distinct and clear dictation from an inner voice that identified itself to her as Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Her scribing of the Course began with the words: "This is A Course In Miracles, please take notes."

The Course In Miracles is a direct message to you from Out of Time lovingly expressed by the Whole Resurrected Mind of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. It is an experiential guide to help bring about the Illumination of your Mind and Body through the process of the practical application of Love, Healing, and Forgiveness.
Through the Reason (Theology) of the Text, the direct application of the ideas (Psychology) in the Workbook, and the application of the ideas in the Teachers Manual, you are led directly into an experience of Union with God, or the Direct Method of Enlightenment.
The Course provides and expands a thought system espoused by Jesus in His Sermon on the Mount and demonstrated as divine truth through his Resurrection. It obviously extends beyond any and all religious or political boundaries. Entertained by Socrates, delighted in by the masters of all eastern and western religions and taught, perhaps unknowingly, by quantum physicists in the recognition of the unreality of observed form.
A masterpiece of mind training, the Workbook is impeccably crafted to catalyze within the individual an experience of thought not bound by the constraints of time, space, or human organizational principles.

A Bright, Miraculous Solution Not From Here! It offers a blueprint of the step-by-step procedure of how the mind works offering a systematic way to a different perception of everyone and everything in the world. This facilitates the final quantum leap in man's evolutionary destiny revolutionizing the paradigm of traditional problem solving within the human species to one of total dependency on God.

The Course Begins With...
"This is a required Course. Only the time you take it is voluntary.
Free will does not mean that you can establish the curriculum. It means only that you can elect what you want to take at a given time. The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love… for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of loves presence, which is your natural inheritance. The opposite of love is fear… but what is all-encompassing can have no opposite. This course can therefore be summed up very simply in this way: Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. When you are fearful you are non-existent. Herein lies the peace of God."

How Does It Work ?

Through the direct application of love, healing, and forgiveness, as taught in the workbook of A Course In Miracles, you will undergo the re-union of your Mind with the Mind of God and remember the Truth of what you are as God Created you.
"You want salvation. You want to be happy. You want peace. You do not have them now, because your mind is totally undisciplined, and you cannot distinguish between joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain, love and fear. You are now learning how to tell them apart. And great indeed will be your reward.
Your decision to see is all that vision requires. What you want is yours. Do not mistake the little effort that is asked of you for an indication that our goal is of little worth. Can the salvation of the world be a trivial purpose? And can the world be saved if you are not? God has one Son, and he is the resurrection and the life. His will is done because all power is given him in Heaven and on earth. In your determination to see is vision given you."
What Does It Say?

You are as God created you.
"This one thought would be enough to save you and the world, if you believed that it is true. Its truth would mean that you have made no changes in yourself that have reality, nor changed the universe so that what God created was replaced by fear and evil, misery and death.

If you remain as God created you fear has no meaning, evil is not real, and misery and death do not exist.
How can a world of time and place exist, if you remain as God created you?
What is this lesson except another way of saying that to know your Self is the salvation of the world? To free the world from every kind of pain is but to change your mind about yourself. There is no world apart from your ideas because ideas leave not their source, and you maintain the world within your mind in thought.

Yet if you are as God created you, you cannot think apart from Him, nor make what does not share His timelessness and Love. Are these inherent in the world you see? Does it create like Him? Unless it does, it is not real, and cannot be at all. If you are real the world you see is false, for God's creation is unlike the world in every way. And as it was His Thought by which you were created, so it is your thoughts which made it and must set it free, that you may know the Thoughts you share with God.
In this one thought is all the past undone; the present saved to quietly extend into a timeless future. If you are as God created you, then there has been no separation of your mind from His, no split between your mind and other minds, and only unity within your own.
The healing power of this idea is limitless. It is the birthplace of all miracles, the great restorer of the truth to the awareness of the world. Accept this idea with gratitude. This is the truth that comes to set you free. This is the truth that God has promised you. This is the Word in which all sorrow ends. This is the key that opens up the gate of Heaven, and that lets you enter in the peace of God and His Eternity."

There is a light in you the world can not perceive.
"And with its eyes you will not see this light, for you are blinded by the world. Yet you have eyes to see it. It is there for you to look upon. It was not placed in you to be kept hidden from your sight. This light is a reflection of the thought we practice now.
To feel the Love of God within you is to see the world anew, shining in innocence, alive with hope, and blessed with perfect charity and love.

Who could feel fear in such a world as this? It welcomes you, rejoices that you came, and sings your praises as it keeps you safe from every form of danger and of pain. It offers you a warm and gentle home in which to stay a while. It blesses you throughout the day, and watches through the night as silent guardian of your holy sleep. It sees salvation in you, and protects the light in you, in which it sees its own. It offers you its flowers and its snow, in thankfulness for your benevolence.

This is the world the Love of God reveals. It is so different from the world you see through darkened eyes of malice and of fear, that one belies the other. Only one can be perceived at all. The other one is wholly meaningless. A world in which forgiveness shines on everything, and peace offers its gentle light to everyone, is inconceivable to those who see a world of hatred rising from attack, poised to avenge, to murder and destroy.

Yet is the world of hatred equally unseen and inconceivable to those who feel God's Love in them. Their world reflects the quietness and peace that shines in them; the gentleness and innocence they see surrounding them; the joy with which they look out from the endless wells of joy within. What they have felt in them they look upon, and see its sure reflection everywhere.
